The Barn Manager is responsible for all things equine.
Planning & Coordination
1. All Position Descriptions on this ranch START with “performs other related duties as needed.”
2. Work in coordination with other managers to ensure all tasks are reaching completion in a timely manner and in order of importance
3. Assist in preparation pricing policies and budgets
4. Assess current activities and structures with an eye to improvement and/or correct issues.
Staff
1. Colaborating with owner, hiring, orientation, education, scheduling and direct supervision of all barn staff and interns
2. Oversight, supervision, and direct care of horses & other livestock.
3. Scheduling and supervising, feeding horses on a rotating basis with wrangler staff.
4. Scheduling and supervising trail rides on property and in the Roosevelt National Forest
Supervising Barn – Hospitality/Guest:
1. Teaching, demonstrating, role-modeling and coaching students equitation and recreation activities (both guests, interns, and locals)
2. Scheduling and supervising trail rides, leading hikes, leading rock climbing activities, square dancing.
3. Maintain all barn logs, including monthly horse diary, ride logs,
4. ensuring guest delight, display enthusiasm for entertaining guests and have fun with them!
5. Give Ranch and Aspen Grove tours
6. Attend meals and eat with guests
7. Attend some evening activities where you will most likely be given beer
Barn/Physical Plant
1. Assist, as needed in repair & maintenance of all ranch buildings: lodge, 2 guest cabins, recreation barn, tack barn, carriage house events, staff housing duplex, water system pump house
2. Oversight and management of all tack and barn equipment.
3. Assist, as needed in the maintenance & repair of tractors, trucks, licensed class C water system, and building equipment.
4. Regular inspection and repair of fencing & gates,.
5. On-call while guests are on-site for emergencies (smoke alarms, clogged toilets, etc.)
6. Managing hay inventory
Livestock/Health:
1. With owner, planning, purchasing, and managing health of all livestock.
2. Plan hoof, dental, vaccination & other horse health & medical needs
3. Assigning & scheduling staff to assist farriers and vets.
Other Duties
1.Support our weddings, murder mystery weekends, and other guest events.
2. Assisting other teams, as needed with duties and chores which have nothing to do with the barn, including the possibility of occasionally cooking, housekeeping, grocery shopping, fixing ornery tractor, fixing frozen pipes or whatever catastrophes which occur in real life on a ranch.
3. Anticipating and managing any and all crises as they arise: wild fires, evacuations, droughts, epidemics, political upheavals, or other acts of God..
4. Hosting meals, activities and events. Providing face-to-face contact to guests.
ABILITIES:
• Friendly, personable, and eager to make guests feel welcome.
• Prefer lifelong equitation experience
• Experience with manageing a string of 40 horses
• Previous Management experience preferred
• Organizational capabilities
• Self-starter who enjoys physical work and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to adapt and take on varied tasks is key.

• Ability to drive a tractor/stick shift
• Hospitality minded
• Any maintenace (plumbing, carpentry, electric, vehicle maintenance) experience is a plus.
