Why This Package Exists — And Why June 21

Most Dude Ranch experiences run for a full week. It's the format that works beautifully for many guests, and it's what the ranch experience is built around.

But every season, the same request comes in:

"We'd love to come. Is there anything between a long weekend and a full week?"

For years, the honest answer was no. This June, the answer is yes.

The June 21 package gives you four nights — long enough to properly unplug, settle in, and get the full ranch experience. Short enough to be home by the weekend. It's a format guests have been asking for, offered once this summer, for this specific week.

Perfect Weather

June in the Colorado Rockies is genuinely one of the most beautiful times to visit. Trails are clear, weather is at its most welcoming.

Kids Out of School

Kids are freshly out of school and still excited. Parents haven't yet hit peak-summer exhaustion.

Before The Crowds

Summer hasn't hit its July crowd peak — more space, more personal attention, and a more memorable experience.

This Stay Was Made For You If…

You're A Family

Your kids are old enough to ride and young enough to think the ranch is the coolest place they've ever been. You want a vacation where everyone puts their phone down — not because you said so, but because there's something genuinely better happening right in front of them.

You're A Couple

You want to actually do something together this summer. Not another resort weekend. In real life things. Riding out into the wilderness. Trying archery. Challenging each other in the shooting range. Sitting on a porch with nowhere to be and just a beautiful sunset to enjoy together.

You had a trip planned somewhere else

Maybe international, maybe not. It didn't come together. You've still got time carved out. You still want to feel like you went somewhere real. This is a better answer than rebooking to something generic.

You're A First-time dude ranch guest

You've been curious about the dude ranch experience but weren't ready to commit to a full week. Four nights is the perfect introduction. Most first-timers start planning their return visit before they have even checked out.

What Four Nights at Sundance Trail Actually Feels Like

You arrive at a working ranch in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies, less than an hour northwest of Fort Collins. The first thing most people notice is that something shifts within the first hour of being here. It's the space. The air. The quiet. The realization that there is nowhere you need to be except right here.

By your first morning, you're in the saddle. Your wrangler knows your name. The trail opens up ahead of you is the jaw dropping great outdoors the ahhhmazing Roosevelt Forest.

By day two, the kids are asking to go out again before breakfast is finished. The adults are talking — properly, not between phone checks. Someone has tried archery. Someone surprised themselves at the shooting range.

By the fourth day, no one wants to leave.

That feeling — where you've actually disconnected, actually been present, and actually made something together worth remembering — that's what Sundance Trail is. Not rooms. Not a list of activities.

It's a feeling you and yours will remember forever.

One Week. Real Limits. No Manufactured Pressure.

Sundance Trail is a small ranch by design. That's what makes the experience what it is — personal, attentive, and unhurried. It also means there are a fixed number of guests per week.

The June 21 package is offered once. When those spots are taken, this specific configuration will not be available again this summer.

  • June 21–25 is a single week.June 21–25 is a single week. It does not repeat.
  • Ranch capacity is approximately 24 guests. It fills.
  • Bookings this summer are landing on shorter lead times than previous years.
  • If you're thinking about it, the window to act is shorter than it looks.

If you're not sure whether this is right for your family or group, call the team at (970) 224-1222. They'll give you a straight answer — no pressure, no pitch.

The worst outcome is that there's no availability, and you get first priority for a future offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the price include?

The all-in price covers 4 nights of lodging, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day), daily horseback riding, and the full activity program — archery, rock climbing, shooting range, disc golf, and evening ranch events. Whitewater rafting is an optional add-on arranged separately.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is Sunday, June 21 from 2pm. Check-out is Thursday, June 25 after breakfast.. But that doesn't mean you leave the ranch right away!

Is this right for families with young children?

Yes. Families are the heart of the ranch experience. Riders generally need to meet a minimum age and weight requirement to join trail rides — the team will confirm fit when you reserve. Non-riding children have plenty to enjoy at the ranch.
To ride outside the arena, children must be mature and large enough to safely control their horse on the trail — we look at the child’s size, coordination, and attitude on horseback

We provide helmets for our young riders at no charge, and we strongly encourage parents to helmet their children.

Riding “double” is extremely dangerous, and is not practiced here.

We do not have hard and fast rules for children by age. We assess the child’s size, coordination and attitude.

  • Almost all girls at age 10 are ready to control their 1,000 pound animals.
  • About half of boys at age 10 are ready.
  • Most, but not all 11 and 12 year old boys are ready.
  • If you bring children in this age bracket, who are not ready, we will refund your deposit or ride inside the arena, as you prefer.

What's the minimum age or weight for horseback riding?

Our ranch welcomes riders of all ages (typically 8+), ensuring that children may safely participate in our trail rides. We prioritize safety and provide helmets at no extra cost.

We have a limited number of “plus size” horses who are comfortable carrying plus sized people.

  • We do not have strict restrictions or rules, but do recognize the rider: horse body weight standard of 20%.
  • This is both a question of weight and a question of athleticism, skill, core strength, balance and reflexes.
  • We understand that BMI tables do not tell the whole story.
  • At the same time we have a moral obligation to protect our horses health and well being, and reserve the right to decline riders who are too big for the horses available.
  • If we decline, the rider will be offered a full refund of your deposit.

Do we need riding experience?

If you’re new to horseback riding, or just new to riding with us, we’ve got you covered. We welcome guests of all experience levels, from first-time riders to seasoned horsepeople. All riders who are new to Sundance Trail will begin with about an hour of preparation before heading out on the trail.

When you arrive, you’ll take part in our “Dreaded Dreadful Safety Lecture,” a fun and informative overview of horse instincts and communication to ensure a safe, enjoyable ride. You’ll also spend some time in the arena practicing starting, stopping, and steering your horse so you feel confident before setting out.

How far is the ranch from Denver and Fort Collins?

The ranch is in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado — approximately 45–60 minutes from Fort Collins and under two hours from Denver. [Confirm exact drive time before publishing.]

How does the whitewater rafting add-on work?

The rafting option runs on departure day. You check out Thursday morning, get lunch on the way, and spend the afternoon on a guided rafting run. The ranch team handles the logistics — just mention it when you reserve.

What's the deposit and cancellation policy?

20% deposit will reserve your spot. Refundable (minus 10% cancellation fee) if canceled 60 days in advance.  Or you may pick new dates and your deposit will be applied to that new reservation. Deposit non-refundable within 60 days of arrival.  Can I book online or do I need to call?

Both. You can book directly online using the link on this page, or call/text//email the reservations team. For larger groups, families with specific accommodation needs, or anyone with questions before committing, a quick call is always welcome.

What if the weather isn't great?

June in Colorado's foothills is typically excellent. The ranch runs its full program in normal conditions. If something unusual happens, the team manages it — that's part of what you're paying for.
