Head Cook

Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and dedicated head cook to join our kitchen staff on a contract basis, with the potential for a full-time, year around role. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing hearty western meals, managing kitchen operations, and contributing to the overall guest experience at our ranch. This role requires a versatile individual who can handle a variety of tasks, from cooking and baking to maintaining a clean kitchen and assisting with other ranch duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation:
    • Prepare hearty western-style meals for approximately 35 individuals, including 20-25 guests and 5-10 staff members.
    • Ensure meals are served family-style in various settings, including the dining room, front porch, picnic tables, and on the trail.
  • Baking:
    • Bake large quantities of desserts and cookies daily to satisfy our guests’ sweet cravings.
  • Special Diets:
    • Prepare therapeutic and/or special diets as needed, with support from management.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Manage and maintain food and supplies inventories, including shopping for groceries and ensuring that the kitchen is well-stocked.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Regularly review and ensure compliance with all Health Department Safety Standards and regulations.
  • Kitchen Maintenance:
    • Maintain a spotless, clean kitchen environment, including washing dishes, pots, and pans.
  • Ranch Support:
    • Assist with various ranch activities, including helping children collect eggs from the hen-house, and supporting wranglers, maintenance personnel, and managers in providing a safe and enjoyable guest experience.
  • Guest Engagement:
    • Contribute to the lively and welcoming atmosphere by sharing jokes and humorous stories with guests and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a cook or chef, preferably in a similar environment.
  • Strong culinary skills with a focus on hearty, western-style cooking.
  • Ability to bake large quantities of desserts and cookies.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic and special diet preparation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Health Department Safety Standards and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing inventories and maintaining a clean kitchen.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and assist with various tasks as needed.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, humorous personality.

Contract Details:

This is a contracted position with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time role based on performance and business needs.

Flexible working hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
