Summer 2016: Rodeos

Our Colorado dude ranch is lucky enough to be located within a short drive of some of the country’s best rodeos and, with the summer season about to kick off, so is rodeo season!  These events are fun for the whole family and offer a true taste of the western lifestyle.  Cowboys and cowgirls from around the country compete for glory in the ring, musicians rock the stage and carnival rides offer thrill seekers a stomach churning good time.  Top it all off with a corn dog, funnel cake and fresh squeezed lemonade and you’ve got yourself one heck of a day out.

Greeley Stampede: June 23 – July 4

The Greeley Stampede has been a part of Northern Colorado culture for 95 spectacular years.  This historic rodeo begins on June 23 and runs through July 4 and is just a short drive from our Colorado guest ranch.  This year, the Stampede has a fantastic musical lineup featuring Lady Antebellum, Chris Young, Luis Coronel, Thomas Rhett, Vince Neil, Chris Janson and Craig Morgan.  In addition to the PRCA rodeo, the Stampede always packs the house with a demolition derby and bullfighting events, too.  A top notch carnival is open daily throughout the event making the Stampede so much more than just another rodeo!

Cheyenne Frontier Days: July 22 – July 31

Join in a piece of true western heritage and check out the world’s largest rodeo – Cheyenne Frontier Days.  This rodeo has been held every year since 1897, making it one of the oldest, continuous rodeos in American history.  Each year, this rodeo is kicked off with the “Walking of the Steers” in which several hundred steers make the 3 mile trek to the rodeo grounds through the town of Cheyenne.  The United States Air Force Thunderbirds perform an exciting aerobatic display, a chuckwagon cook off highlights some of the best western cooking in the country and arts and craft vendors offer unique western goods.  Frontier Days always offers amazing musical talent and this year is no exception.  If concerts are your thing, you can see Florida Georgia Line, KISS, Jake Owen, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Fall Out Boy and Sam Hunt on stage this year!  Frontier Days runs from July 22 through the 31st and is only a little over an hour from our dude ranch in Colorado.

Larimer County Fair and Rodeo: July 31 – August 10

The Larimer County Fair and Rodeo is near and dear to the heart of our community.  Not only is this a PRCA rodeo event, but it is the culmination of a years worth of work for our local 4-H kiddos.  The Fair allows these kids to show off their hard work and get first hand knowledge of farm to table operations while setting the stage for the next generation of farmers and ranchers.  The Larimer County Fair offers an amazing carnival, art vendors and has even incorporated a brew fest into the schedule to accommodate our area’s growing thirst for craft beer.  This year’s Fair starts July 31st and runs through August 10th and is held at the Ranch complex in Loveland which is just a short drive from us!

Dude ranch life is sure exciting and Sundance Trail is no exception!  We offer tons of activities that never cease to please adults and kids of all ages but we know how exciting our area is – especially this time of year.  We encourage our guests to explore and partake in these events and, if attending one of these historic rodeos sound like something up your alley, just let us know!  We’ll be happy to help you work out the details!  Call us today and book your dude ranch vacation!
